A Dump Truck Birthday Cake made from…
- 1 and 1/4 Sara Lee Pound Cakes (use the rest for cake pops?)
- Graham crackers – stacked 4-graham-crackers-high underneath the cake (with icing between each layer) to lift the dump truck off the “ground,” two side by side for the bottom of the truck bed, layer of icing, two more perpendicular to the first two, layer of icing, and (I think) two more in the same direction as the bottom layer. One strip across the front top of the bed.
- Chocolate-covered donuts – tires
- Oreos – two side by side holding up the truck bed and covered with icing; a bunch processed into dirt in our food processor. (The first time we’ve ever used our food processor since our wedding day… my husband now tells everyone we process our own food.)
- Dots – lights on top of truck.
- 2 16-oz cans icing – lots and lots and lots of icing to keep it from falling apart.
- Two brown Reese’s Pieces or M&Ms for the headlights.
- Black tube icing for the grill.
- Yellow food coloring (Ice the windshield before adding yellow food coloring.)
- Construction Cone Candles
BUT for those who need some extra photos… I grabbed the original idea for this cake at The Recipe Room.

The fun & games... set up with toys we already had on hand.

We also played Pin-the-Nail-on-the-Hammer, but I didn’t get a picture of it! (The download, however, is provided at the bottom of this post!) We were planning to play a few construction party games (click here for the great ideas), but everyone enjoyed playing with the toys in the family room and then going outside to knock down a pinata…
We made party invitations out of this free template copied into PowerPoint and edited using text boxes.
And now for the free downloads…
