After memorizing the various combinations of letters for verb endings (conjugations), noun endings (declensions), and vocabulary words, we finally simplified this process and decided to learn our alphabet before moving to more vocabulary. This comes at the suggestion of our 4-year-old, who asked for a Latin alphabet coloring book, which I could not find on-line after doing multiple searches.[I try not to re-invent the wheel. I’d rather provide things that are not already available at the time of my creating them!] So… we share with you our homemade Latin alphabet Coloring Book and corresponding flashcards.
This has made the pronunciation of our verb endings so much easier to remember! I don’t need verb and noun chart pronunciation keys anymore. [Leave it to my 4-year-old to teach me some Latin!]
A few notes
I am not a Latin scholar. I’m just a mom trying to help my children (and myself) learn Latin. Having said that, I researched this until my eyes ran cross-eyed. [And I spoke with parents of upper level students to confirm which pronunciation to use.]
These two documents use the Classical Latin pronunciation: The Roman System, which can be found in the Appendix of Henle Latin. The only variations in these documents (from Henle) are the y and y-with-macron (used in borrowed words from Greek – but, honestly, my knowledge here is quite limited), and the eu diphthong. My main goal was to be consistent with the pronunciations we were using in our homeschool co-op.

Update: Several years have passed since we designed this coloring book, and we’ve come across many different resources for studying Latin since then. After all our searching, you can check out our favorite Latin curriculum and why at this post.
