These resources should correlate with both 4th and 5th Edition of the Foundations Guide. If you find any discrepancies, please hop down to the comments to let us know! The links can be found on our Cycle 2 Resources Page, organized according to subject. Click here for other weeks.
Please do not think that we do everything on this list (not even the things listed in the “practicing memory work” section!)! Our reality has been filled with real things that have interfered with our schedule (like illness). Please give yourself freedom to do (or not do) whatever fits your family!
Practicing Memory Work
Our focus this year has been on beefing up our reading (click here for our reading plan), along with a bit of copywork and notebooking. Most of our memory work practice comes from listening to CDs in the car. However, we also try to use notebooking as another way to emphasize memory work, so here I offer a plan. [But plan is not everyday reality].
Here is a list of various memory work practice techniques. Mix ’em up to add some variety and excitement!
Weekly notebook activities (which don’t actually happen every week):
- Latin Conjugation Match-Up with Latin – Keeping the Tenses Straight.
- Accordion Timeline Notebook. We use our timeline notebook to visualize our timeline in the space of history but finished it last year. We flip through it now for reference.
- Bible: For 4th Edition, we simply practiced this Ephesians 6 Hand Motion Video. You might also do Ephesians 6 Copywork (KJV). For 5th Edition, you can try King Things Genesis 1 Audio on Spotify or this Mega Verses Hand Motion Video.
- Geography: Show me / tell me map locations. Trace Asia outline map
- Optional English Grammar Review: Pronoun Match-Up Packet
- History: We use blank illustration copywork pages (There may also be copywork pages available on CC Connected.)
- Science: Blank illustration notebook page as shown in our Science Cards post. (Or student can simply write memory work in a notebook.) Also reading from the Physical Science Unit from Homeschool Curriculum Company (click here for that freebie!).
- Fine Arts: Fine Arts notebooking pages
And… for this week:
- English Grammar: Put your Hands Together for Conjunctions Activity
- Math: Associative Property of Multiplication (see more worksheets under math section) or use construction paper cut-outs (e.g., squares of different colors with a as red, b as blue, c as green and cut-outs of parentheses, equals, and plus/multiplication signs) to demonstrate Associative and Commutative Laws
- Geography: Nation Flags Coloring Pages (younger) Ducksters Central America – Color-Code Map (older)
- History: Ronald Reagan Coloring Page (online or print), Margaret Thatcher Coloring Page (online or print), or Ronald Reagan Notebooking Page
- Science Week 22: Refraction Worksheet/Activity, Reflection Worksheet/Activity, The Color Spectrum Worksheet/Activity
Memory Work Review Game: What-to-do-how-to-say-it (For other games, visit our Memory Work Review Games post and link-up)
Presentation Ideas: Flags of this week’s countries: Bridge Design {PBS Building Big: Bridges}, Three Big Temperature Scales (What is Kelvin?) or How is a rainbow formed?
Our School Schedule (This is how we plan to study the subjects throughout the week.)
The Link Buffet: Extension Activities
Pick and choose what you wish to do! {We usually do not do much from this list, but it’s there in case we need an idea! But I also want to emphasize here that it is not necessary to supplement Classical Conversations at the Foundations Stage, aside from using a language arts and math program. Read more about that here.}
Please notify me of broken or inoperable links, and I’ll be glad to fix them! If you’d like to add a great resource to this list, feel free to contact me or leave it in the comments!
