Y’all! I have to tell you about a project our family shared together this summer because it was just so completely fascinating! In previous years, we had memorized the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, only to find out this year that there are other officially acclaimed Wonders of the Medieval World, Wonders of the Modern World, and Wonders of the Natural World. And as we take a trip around the world with Mission World Wonders, it was only appropriate for us to explore the Wonders of the World throughout history!
We received this product free for the purpose of reviewing it and were compensated for the time invested in writing this review. We do not recommend anything we don’t use and love in our own homeschool. Affiliate links are used in this post. Please read our full disclosure policy for more details.
The Wonders of the World Lap Pak from Homeschool in the Woods provides a glimpse of the astonishing accomplishments of God and man. In this study, we not only learned additional details to flesh out our memory work of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World (the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Statue of Zeus at Olympia, the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, the Colossus of Rhodes, and the Lighthouse of Alexandria), but we also kept a timeline of the Wonders of the World and explored:
- Stonehenge
- The Leaning Tower of Pisa
- The Colosseum
- The Hagia Sophia
- The Great Wall of China
- The Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa
- The Lost Porcelain Pagoda
- The Channel Tunnel
- The CN Tower
- The Empire State Building
- The Golden Gate Bridge
- Itaipu Dam
- Panama Canal
- The Netherlands North Sea Protection Works
- Mount Everest
- The Grand Canyon
- The Northern Lights
- The Harbor of Rio de Janeiro
- The Great Barrier Reef
- Paricutín: The Volcano in a Cornfield
- Victoria Falls
The Wonders of the World Lap-Pak has been a delightful crash course in world history that spans the entire globe! We’ve had so many discussions as a result of this interactive study that is now a special keepsake for our family to review time and again. And by interacting with the material in this way, they’ve retained much of the information they’ve learned.
The Wonders of the World Lap-Pak introduces 28 different wonders through readings (which are included in the packet as a booklet AND as audio) and hands-on projects that either introduce or reinforce the topics.
The projects incorporate drawing, research, creative writing, and crafts that teach students using a variety of multi-sensory learning techniques. Each project comes with detailed masters and step-by-step illustrated instructions for printing and assembly of the project. The engaging readings distinguish between fact and fiction and provide a great narrative for learning the stories behind the wonders of the world. Because audio is provided, it’s possible for students to listen to the lesson while working on a craft/project. Very simple. Very efficient. Very effective.
