…continuing through Pennsylvania State #14 of 50-States-Before-They-Graduate. Check out our Mid-Eastern States Itinerary.
We stayed a few days at Kitchen Kettle Village in Intercourse, PA.
Kitchen Kettle includes a petting zoo, where you might see some strange-looking llamas. [ha.ha.] The animals there are a bit obsessive about food.
Kitchen Kettle is a village of country stores with all sorts of things like homemade jellies and quilts. But… because I don’t like shopping much, we decided to venture out to experience the Amish country…
The Amish Experience included a multi-screen production called “Jacob’s Choice…”
…and a trip through the area in a buggy…
… or was it a wagon?
The view was spectacular. It was surreal to watch cars zooming by the buggies. I kept thinking “Really? Is this really happening?!?”
While we were there, we also learned how to make pretzels at the Intercourse Pretzel Factory.
We also went to one of the country restaurants in the area that provide “smorgasbord” dining. There Stephen gave the waiter all of us a history lesson on the life and times of William Penn.
Lancaster County was so peaceful it was difficult to leave. We hope to have the chance to go back and spend at least a few weeks!
Our family aims to visit all 50 states together before our boys graduate from high school. To take a look at some of the places we’ve been, visit our Traveling America posts. Feel free to leave your comments and suggestions for your favorite state(s), or virtually visit the other states we’ve visited to offer your recommendations on those pages! We’d love to read about your own family’s adventures… or to simply know about destinations you’ve enjoyed!
