I’ve been working on blackline drawings to simplify some of the artwork we will be studying in the spring. Although they’re not the best quality, I thought I’d share them here in case anyone would like use them for their own art studies. They can be used for younger students as Great Artist Coloring Pages.
Also be sure to check out our Renaissance Artist Picture Study Packet!
The following blackline drawings may be used as coloring pages for younger children and/or templates for painting replicas of each artist’s work.
Giotto
I traced a blackline for Giotto’s St. Peter and St. Paul, since they are some of his simplest masterpieces.
If it looks like I was holding a toddler while I was tracing these, well… I think I was.

Angelico
We decided to draw angels as part of our Angelico artwork/study, so I made an outline drawing for Angelico’s Archangel Gabriel Annunciate.
Download it here: HHAW Annunciation Angelico
Durer
Because we are focusing on the printmaking technique, I chose to trace a simple outline of Durer’s Rhinoceros to use for our block print.

El Greco
El Greco was known for elongating his portraits. One of the portraits of his son was drawn more to scale, so I chose to make a blackline of this one to stretch out. I’ve also included lines for cutting in case you would like to cut into strips and use it for “stretching out” or “elongating” the drawing.

Da Vinci
Although we are not formally studying Da Vinci this spring, the Mona Lisa is the most well-known portrait in the world. Because this line drawing is simpler and more familiar than the one above, we may be using it to practice El Greco’s technique.
