With Passover fast approaching, we pulled out The Old Testament Activity Pak for a trip down memory lane – and to especially review events from the Exodus. With the extra time we have on our hands due to social distancing efforts, we thought we’d share a peek into this hands-on study of the Old Testament from our friends over at Homeschool in the Woods!
Suggested for Grades 3-8, The Old Testament Activity Pak includes lap booking projects that incorporate Bible study, research, creative writing, cooking, and more. It is such an engaging and interactive way to explore an overview of the Old Testament!
We reviewed some well-known events and people, and we explored the major and minor prophets in greater detail. Activities include…
- The Days of Creation
- Abraham, Sarah, & Isaac
- The Ten Commandments
- Hebrew History with Egypt
- The Ten Plagues of Egypt
The study of the ten plagues also includes a description of the Egyptian gods that corresponded to each plague! <— A great connection to Ancient Egyptian culture/history!
- Jubal & Tubal-Cain
- Noah & the Flood
- Sodom & Gomorrah
- Descendants from Adam to Joseph
- Ruth, Naomi, and Esther
- The Fiery Furnace
The timeline of Adam to Joseph is a great graphical representation of how the lives of Adam through the patriarchs overlapped!
- Major & Minor Prophets
- Israel’s First Three Kings
Each flap of the major and minor prophets provides an overview of that prophet’s message/book. It’s a helpful reference/review of each book in this section of the Old Testament!
- Division of the Hebrew Kingdoms
- The Tower of Babel
We loved that the activities included Old Testament recipes, including a “treasure hunt” through the Bible to find the ingredients to complete an Old Testament Cake! (We’re actually aiming to cook that up this week!)
Twenty-five Proverbs that illustrate and reinforce life lessons are included as copywork in a variety of penmanship options.
The activity pak also includes a newspaper project, The Old Testament Tribune, in which students become a reporter to write articles on Biblical/historical events as if they were there.
Because we already use a writing course (and our boys do not necessarily like to write more than absolutely necessary), we didn’t complete the creative writing prompts. However, this project packet does include nineteen different articles/prompts to illustrate and can certainly be used in lieu of or to supplement a formal creative writing curriculum for elementary school.
This activity pak comes in digital format, so you’ll need access to a printer. The detailed project master sheets include illustrations with step-by-step instructions for completion of each project along with the assembly of the finished lap book. Although younger students may need more guidance and assistance with the projects, older students are able to handle the majority of the Activity-Pak independently. In fact, our older children usually guide our younger ones through projects like these!
Just as we have enjoyed so many other hands-on history projects & fantastic timeline resources, we’ve also enjoyed The Old Testament Activity Pak from Homeschool in the Woods and highly recommend it as a fun and engaging way to provide an overview of the Old Testament and study scriptures together as a family!
We received this product free for the purpose of reviewing it. We do not recommend anything we don’t use and love in our own homeschool. Affiliate links are used in this post. Please read our full disclosure policy for more details.
