Here we are midway through December
Scratching our heads, trying to remember
The events of the year – Two Zero One Nine.
Let’s see if we can rhyme the time line by line.
With a Tobymac tour, our family opened the year
After Granny & Papaw visited us here.
Then for David’s 13th on Valentine’s Day,
Circus World offered a great place to play.
We worshiped at Winter Jam, which we would not have missed,
And we headed downtown for a trip to the Frist
Where we saw some Van Gogh, Degas, and Monet.
Then we wrapped up drama class with the “Mystery Cafe.”
We released new curriculum, and a new copywork book
And for JC’s Beach Outreach many hot dogs we cooked
At eXalt, our two teens practiced singing in tune
And Isaac’s fifth birthday we celebrated in June.
A trip west to meet family up in Yellowstone Park
Had us driving through the Rockies well after dark
Old Faithful was faithful; the hot springs were hot.
The wildlife was wild; the tourists were not.
In Colorado, we hiked the Great Sand Dunes – with water
Over the course of those days it got hotter and hotter;
Then Manitou Cliff Dwellings and Garden of the Gods
And… Badlands in Kansas? What are the odds?
We returned home to Gear Up for Stephen’s birthday
The week of kids choir where some music was played.
July also wrapped up our Marvel-ous summer
We thought Endgame’s ending was a bit of a bummer.
(Before the year’s end, more music was planned.
There was Raise the Praise fest with JJ Weeks Band.
We Burned the Ships with For King and Country.
Trans-Siberian Orchestra was pretty funky and spunky.)
In August we started our Faith Forgers biographies,
Learning church history with fine arts, astronomy, and geographies.
Homeschool Dramatic Society’s World War tale
Involved a young woman whose faith did prevail
And one more performance – a blacklight show
Life-sized puppets with props all aglow.
Finally, Levi’s eleventh birthday with nerf darts flying fast,
We’ve rhymed line-by-line to December at last!
We’re finishing this wRap with a swoosh and a flourish
‘Cause we’re all out of words and our brains need to nourish.
In the hustle and bustle of another busy season
Let us not forget the most special reason.
It’s not in the sweets. It’s not in the stuff.
It’s not in the flurry. It’s not in the fluff.
It’s all about a child, born far to the east
Counselor, Mighty God, the true Prince of Peace.
He was born on that night with a purpose to fulfill.
Love was His mission – bringing peace & goodwill.
We reflect on the beauty of this great lowly birth
“…for his greatness will reach to the ends of the earth.” (Micah 5:4)
Merry Christmas!
Gary, Brandy, Stephen, David, Levi, and Isaac Ferrell
