Mission Lasting Liberty is a one-year American history curriculum that guides you through a living history of the United States, integrating geography, hymn study, fine arts, and scripture. Plus, study human anatomy and a basic introductory chemistry!
Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 2 Corinthians 3:17 (NKJV)
Welcome to Mission: Lasting Liberty, a faith-based, integrated study of U.S. history and geography, fine arts, and scripture/hymns with a faith-based focus on the wonders God has orchestrated in the nation from before the Age of Exploration through today – with an underlying theme of the liberty that is found only through Christ.
A one-year American history curriculum!
Written for families with students in Grades 2-8 (and beyond), the framework of this study is built upon unique people and events who have changed the nation through their love for Christ and their compassion for fellow man as they’ve lived out their faith throughout the nation and beyond. The historical narrative is expanded with captivating biographies which were especially chosen to provide a deeper connection to the major events and people that shaped our nation and how God worked through their lives to embrace a life free in Christ. It is an account of God’s love and truth spreading across the nation through the lives of Christian men and women from ancient days through the national and world conflicts of the 20th century.
In Mission: Lasting Liberty, families will read a chronological living history of the United States to learn about the story of the nation. America’s Story has been chosen for its engaging storytelling format, along with its incorporation of narration prompts and vivid illustrations. America’s Story Volume 1 begins with the Ancient Americans and provides a living history of our nation up to the the Gold Rush. America’s Story Volume 2 picks up with the Civil War and continues through the Industrial Revolution. America’s Story Volume 3 proceeds with the early 1900s and concludes with modern times.
Alongside their study of U.S. History, children learn about those who have led our nation through Don’t Know Much about the Presidents, an amusing and memorable look at the U.S. Presidents. Upper elementary and middle school students learn more about U.S. Government by studying each article of the U.S. Constitution with Our Constitution Rocks!
As students learn about historical events and people from American history, they will explore each state as it corresponds to the historical narrative and memorize states & capitals, physical features, and how to draw the USA from memory.
To add the beautiful elements of fine arts, we also integrate hymn study and drawing/art projects that correlate with the history or biographies studied. To gain an appreciation for classical music, students will learn about the instruments of the orchestra along with Modern era composers Debussy, Stravinsky, Schoenberg, Gershwin, Copland, and Bernstein (and their connection to American history). We also include a Bible reading plan for instilling the habit of reading the Bible as a family, along with suggestions for related scripture memorization.
In this one-year American history curriculum plan, we will marvel at the wonders of God’s creation through the complexities of the human body and basic chemistry while interweaving apologetics. The core science selection for first semester is The Human Body from God’s Design for Life, and, for second semester, Properties of Matter from God’s Design for Chemistry & Ecology. These science readings are short, interesting, and informative – and they include memorable hands-on activities and scientist biographies that help students to enjoy the process of discovery. (For students in K-2, you can add the corresponding Life for Beginners book which includes Human Body for Beginners. We no longer carry this item in our shop, but it may be ordered directly from Master Books.)
What holds it all together? The Mission: Lasting Liberty Teacher’s Guide! This one-year American history curriculum plan is divided into six separate units of six weeks each to provide flexibility for families. Completed together, the study offers a full 36-week course of study for science, history, geography, and fine arts. (Families may adjust their schedules to complete fewer units or subjects if needed.)
The one-year American history curriculum plan is scheduled using a 4-day week to accommodate families who participate in a homeschool community/co-op day or to provide an extra day each week to shift activities or catch up if needed.

For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Galatians 5:13-14 (NKJV)
