Three years ago, our family embarked on developing an integrated study to explore the ongoing fulfillment of the Great Commission through a missions-focused curriculum that incorporates social studies and science, integrating the study of scripture, history, geography, missions, hymns, and fine arts…
Our Mission: Great Commission series takes families through a study of the entire world over a three-year period, with Mission: World Wonders exploring ancient to medieval history along with world cultures, religions, and missions, Mission: Faith Forgers providing an overview of church history in the midst of world history from the protestant reformation through modern times, and Mission: Lasting Liberty focusing on the the history of the United States of America.
Mission: World Wonders – Trip Two
Now that we are cycling back to a study of ancient history, world geography, and world religions (with Mission: World Wonders), we’re offering a “Trip #2” supplement especially for families who have already completed a first trip through the Mission: World Wonders program and are returning for a second trip. (If you have not previously used Mission: World Wonders, visit this page to learn more about the program.)
This supplement provides a framework for substituting alternate read-alouds and science into our Mission: World Wonders program and is intended to be used in conjunction with the Mission: World Wonders Teacher’s Guide along with the geography and fine arts books in the original program. The supplement is offered as a free digital download for those who already own the Mission: World Wonders Teacher’s Guide and thus have access to the Mission: World Wonders Supplemental Webpage. (A link to this resource may be found on the supplemental resource webpage listed on p. 4 of the Mission: World Wonders Teacher’s Guide.) Note: Starting in April 2024, the Revised Edition of the Mission World Wonders Guide includes the Trip Two Options at the bottom of each planning page.
Like the original Mission: World Wonders plan, the framework of this study is built around eight unique people who have changed the world through their love for Christ and their compassion for fellow man. These captivating biographies were especially chosen due to the diverse backgrounds and talents that each person possessed and used to glorify God.
In this trip, we marvel at the wonders of God’s creation through nature study and exploration of biology (through ecology) and earth science while interweaving apologetics.
The core science selection for first semester is Properties of Ecosystems from God’s Design for Chemistry & Ecology, and, for second semester, Our Planet Earth from God’s Design for Heaven & Earth. To round out the study of earth science, we have also included an optional lesson each week from Our Weather & Water also from God’s Design for Heaven & Earth. These science readings are short and informative, and each lesson includes a hands-on activity using common household supplies.
