Due to special requests from Classical Conversations families, we’ve updated our CC Cycle 1 Planner to our new design, which includes reading correlations and a Memory Work Review plan to keep the memory work fresh without it becoming cumbersome and overwhelming. There are two versions of our new planner to choose from:
a 4-day-week planner (for those who would rather not record information for their community day)…
…and a 5-day-week planner (for those who need all 5 days in their planner).
Our Memory Work Review Plan Schedule was designed with the basic idea and principles behind the Scripture Memory Box System, but I’ve custom-made the review schedule to fit into a 24-week cycle. This plan is similar to the one offered in our Poetry Penmanship and Memorization curriculum and was first included in our Cycle 3 planners.
Additional Planning Resource Packet
A planning resource packet is included as an appendix to our planner. The Memory Work Review Schedule pictured above is included as part of the planning resource packet for families who would like to practice memory work in a simple, systematic manner throughout the year.
We’ve included an at-a-glance sheet of our Cycle 1 Reading Correlations (for both 4th and 5th Editions of the Foundations Guide)…
…and a topical Cycle 1 Booklist, along with shorter lists of our favorite Cycle 1 picture books, read alouds, leveled readers, Who Was… books, Magic Tree House and Imagination Station (Adventures in Odyssey)!
Reading correlations within planner pages are to Foundations Guide 5th Edition, but a reference sheet is included in the appendix for replacement readings for those who are using Foundations Guide 4th Edition.
About the Planner Pages
This planner includes a variety of planning pages so that each user can select the pages needed to customize the planner to his or her preference. A reading correlation is provided for convenience. It is not intended that all (or even any!) of these resources be used, but they are included simply for reference. Shopping through the following Amazon affiliate links supports our work here at Half-a-Hundred Acre Wood. Thank you!
Abbreviations in this planner are as follows:
- WHH: Scholastic’s Everything You Need to Know about World History Homework (2005 edition). This is a desk reference that has short explanations and illustrations that correlate with the history memory work for Cycles 1 and 2. (CC used the Scholastic books to develop the history and science content in the Foundations Guide)
- SOTW: The Story of the World Volume 1: Ancient Times: From the Earliest Nomads to the Last Roman Emperor, The Story of the World Volume 2 by Susan Wise Bauer, The Story of the World Volume 3 by Susan Wise Bauer (Page numbers are included for both original 2004 Edition and the revised edition released in February 2020. Revised edition page numbers are indicated by the abbreviation REV.), The Story of the World Volume 4 by Susan Wise Bauer (Page numbers are included for both original 2005 Edition and the revised edition released in February 2021. Revised edition page numbers are indicated by the abbreviation REV.) Purchase all four volumes at a discount in our shop here!
- MOH: The Mystery of History Volume 1 by Linda Lacour Hobar, The Mystery of History Volume 2 by Linda Lacour Hobar, The Mystery of History Volume 3 by Linda Lacour Hobar, The Mystery of History Volume 4 by Linda Lacour Hobar
Science memory work correlations for all three cycles are also provided using:
- SH: Scholastic’s Everything You Need To Know About Science Homework (2005 Edition). This is a desk reference that has short explanations and illustrations that correlate with the science memory work for Cycles 1 and 2. Note that it references evolution/old earth/millions of years.
- Other resources referenced include: Classical Acts & Facts History Cards and Classical Acts & Facts Science Cards
Note: CC Memory work is not included in this planner. The only thing that makes this planner a CC cycle-specific planner is the reference to “Cycle One” in the upper left hand corner and the reading correlations listed on the second page for each week. The reading correlations are to Foundations Guide 5th Edition. If you are using Foundations Guide 4th Edition, history memory work is the same; science references have shifted, but we have included a 4th edition correlation for the Scholastic Science book if you are still using the older edition. Below is an unobstructed view of the layout of the planner pages.
These planners also include an attendance and grade log, along with our other extra planning and record-keeping pages. This planner may be used by all homeschool families, regardless of whether they are using Classical Conversations.
