Mid-schoolyear is always a time for reflection for me. I seem to re-evaluate and question everything I’m doing in January. Maybe it’s because it’s a new year, or maybe it’s because I have a Type A Personality and feel as if I’ve failed on so many levels. This year has been a rough one for us academically.
But, really, what is most important to me as a parent? For my children to know and love God and to be capable of making Him known to the world around us. But… how are we seeking to learn about God or make Him known to others through our studies? When left to myself, I do not do this as fabulously as I would like. I’m pressed for time (aren’t we all?), and it’s just not always easy to find textbooks and resources that align what we are memorizing to the Bible in a way that edifies our faith. Here, I say once again:
And for those of us who are currently restoring their education alongside their children’s, it can take a good deal of forethought and prayer to recognize and point out how He is revealed through all subjects. So, how can I piece together all this diversity into a unified message about God?
Creation Science for Kids: Earth Science is a science curriculum (written by an insightful homeschooling Mom) containing a Biblical approach to studying twelve different concepts in Earth Science. This 52-page book contains additional information for each science fact (some great related history, too!), along with scripture references and Bible study questions that correlate with each topic. These books even provide the original language (Hebrew/ Greek) of the Bible to give a deeper meaning of the related scriptures. If you’re not sure how to approach the study of Earth Science from a Biblical worldview, you can take a look inside at a portion of the Parts of the Earth here to see if it’s something your family could use this semester.
Last semester, our family greatly benefited from the use of the Creation Science for Kids Biology Study Unit. We simply used it as our devotion one morning per week instead of our normal Bible studies. And, honestly, the Creation Science for Kids series has promoted and encouraged so much wonderful discussion at our breakfast table! It is a wonderful way to expound upon our science memory work AND connect that memory work to Biblical truths. And because we have been so limited in what we can do this year, it has been a true blessing!
