If you’re looking for mid-year curriculum options, our open-and-go Mission Faith Forgers curriculum can be started mid-year! In January, families can begin mid-way through our Mission Faith Forgers Guide (in Unit 4), which starts with a study of world history and modern missions from the late 1800s through modern day. While reading a living history of the world, you’ll also master the countries of Europe & Asia, study physical science, and experience fine arts (including art, orchestra & composers, hymn study, and scripture memorization) – all while uncovering the Great Commission unfolding in modern missions throughout Europe and Asia from the Industrial Revolution through the world wars and communism.
Families who are using Mission: Faith Forgers continue to share with us how simple and life-changing it has been to implement this curriculum.
Our family has been so blessed by the World Wonders and Faith Forgers studies. Besides creative writing, it’s what we look forward to the most! – Laura
I deliberated a long time before purchasing this curriculum for my son. I knew it had so many great books in it, and the author Brandy Ferrell had done all the work of planning each lesson for me, which is very handy for a busy homeschooling mama. And it had a mission focus, which I was wanting to incorporate into our home culture. It even aligned nicely with the studies we are doing this year with our homeschool co-op. A total win, right? So why was I hesitating to get it? Here’s the truth: I was scared that I wouldn’t follow through and actually do the work. Our lives are very full right now and I just didn’t know if I could be disciplined enough to do a structured science, music, art and geography curriculum. I barely can get math, language arts, piano, our memory work, chores, and read-alouds in every day. Could I really do more? So I deliberated and put off making a decision until 1 month ago. And then I decided to go for it. And I am so glad I did! This curriculum has been so easy to implement without any extra planning or prep for me. We are learning so much about the early church and individuals involved in spreading the gospel, and the best part is that we are learning about and praying for other cultures and countries as a result. The whole family is loving the devotions and read-alouds and it is bringing us together as a family. It definitely has filled in the gaps we had and enriched our culture at home as well. I am so glad I finally took the plunge and purchased it! Thanks Brandy Ferrell of Half-a-Hundred Acre Wood. This has far exceeded my expectations and we are so blessed by it! -Ferne

What is Mission: Faith Forgers?
The Mission: Faith Forgers Teacher’s Guide is a reading plan/curriculum guide that offers a full 36-week course of study for science, history, geography, and fine arts. It may be started mid-year at Week 19 to provide a full 18-week course of study for geography, history, science, and fine arts. Details about each subject are offered below, focusing on the resources used for second semester. For a complete listing of the resources used for the complete 36-week program, click here.
History & Read-Alouds. Families read a chronological study of world history to learn about the story of the world alongside their study of missionaries through the world conflicts of the 20th century. Story of the World has been chosen to provide students with a chronological history in an engaging storytelling format. In Story of the World Volume 4, students are introduced to the people, places, and events of modern times from Queen Victoria’s Empire to the fall of communism in Eastern Europe.
Geography. As students learn about historical events and the ongoing fulfillment of the Great Commission, they will learn about cultures across the Eurasian continent and how to pray for others around the world while memorizing the countries of Europe and Asia.
Fine Arts. To add the beautiful elements of fine arts, hymn study and art projects are integrated to correlate with the missionary or region studied. To gain an appreciation for classical music, students will learn about the instruments of the orchestra along with Romantic era composers Wagner, Tchaikovsky, Brahms, and Mahler. We also learn large passages of scripture through KJV Songs (Bible Readeez).
Science. We marvel at the wonders of God’s creation through physical science while interweaving apologetics. The core science selection for second semester is Machines & Motion from God’s Design for the Physical World. These science readings are short, interesting, and informative – and they include memorable hands-on activities and scientist biographies that help students to enjoy the process of discovery.
The plan is scheduled using a 4-day week to accommodate families who participate in a homeschool community/co-op day or to provide an extra day each week to shift activities or catch up if needed. Along with this study, users will also gain access to an exclusive password-protected website that provides additional resources that correlate with this study. Note: The books selected for this curriculum package were chosen as long-term resources for students to use when they embark on research and world geography memorization in grades 7+. This study has been designed to be used independently of Classical Conversations®. For families who use Classical Conversations®, the readings assigned in the Mission: Faith Forgers study overlaps much of the memory work studied during Cycle 2 but is not correlated week by week. This provides an opportunity for ongoing review and integration of the memory work throughout the year.

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:1-2 NKJV)
